I see GoogleMaps as a great tool for an online community.
It’s possible for individuals in the community to highlight and explain different geographical parts of said community on a public map. They can also complement that info with photos or video.
Here’s a user guide to Google Maps explaining the different features we can utilize.
Below is a map I did, which highlights a location and displays a YouTube video related to the location.
If this is stuff you all already know about, I’m sorry. But at least applaud the fact that I learned something!

I sent everyone an email inviting you to join The Maryland Pkwy Project on Flickr!!! It’s an easier way for me to share my photos with you [and vice versa] rather than going through all of the effort of adding each photo to a post here on wordpress.
1. Join
2. View the photos
3. Comment?
4. Start a discussion suggesting what/where else I should photograph for the MPP.
Thanks guys!

If you find something of interest to the group while surfing the web it is easy to add it to this page. You’ll need a del.icio.us account if you don’t already have one. For those new to the del.icio.us concept it is a social bookmarking site where internet users apply tags to items on the web in order to give them more meaning.
If you find something interesting for this group simply tag it jour493 in del.icio.us and it will show up here.

I came across a few Web sites that may be helpful for some basic tips and definitions. The first describes what a Wiki is and gives some information about Wikis.
The other Web site is a Deki Wiki site that is a Content Management Systems Wire. It has a lot of information about a variety of different topics that I think we will be dealing with.
The last link is to a blog entry I found that talks about Content Management Systems. It talks about a variety of aspects of CMS such as editing, modeling and storage.
Hopefully this will help people who don’t know too much about Wikis, Dekis and CMS and expand the horizons of those of us who pretend to know about them.

So I came across this site put together by some students at the University of Maryland via Planetizen’s blog. Here’s their description.
David Daddio and Rob Goodspeed, two planning students at the University of Maryland, wanted to put their planning and technology skills to work to help the college town of College Park, Maryland. The result is Rethink College Park, a user-friendly website that provides community members with updated information on plans in the community, as well as a way to discuss proposals. The site features an active blog and an interactive development map that plots development projects and proposed transit routes.
I thought it was a cool way to get the kind of info that is in the Maryland Parkway project (I think, we should probably look at the content more before planning the website). It’s not a wiki but it does cover the important stuff going on (planning wise) pretty effectively due to the blogging format. They also put together a nice, color coded and linky Google map with locations of new proposed buildings, old ones and possible transit routes.
